Landscaping Services in Roane County, TN

Rock Solid designs and installs landscapes throughout Roane County that work with East Tennessee's climate, soil, and terrain. Whether you're starting from bare ground on a new construction home or transforming an overgrown, outdated yard, we create outdoor spaces that look good and hold up through Tennessee's demanding growing seasons.

Good landscaping in Roane County isn't just about aesthetics, it's about plant selection that survives summer heat, drainage that prevents erosion on sloped lots, and design that fits the way you actually live. We get the details right so you're not replacing plants or re-grading beds a few years down the road.

How landscaping works in Roane County

Every landscaping project in Roane County starts with an assessment of your soil, drainage, sun exposure, and site conditions. These factors determine which plants will thrive, how beds should be graded, and where to direct irrigation and water flow. Skipping this step leads to plants that struggle, beds that wash out, and landscapes that need constant intervention.

From that assessment, we develop a design, source plants from reputable Tennessee growers, and install everything with proper soil preparation and bed construction. We communicate throughout the project so you understand what we're doing and why.

Local considerations for Roane County

  • Roane County's clay-heavy soils require amendment for most planting beds, we prepare soil properly so plants establish quickly and root systems can develop.

  • Properties near Watts Bar Lake and other waterfront areas need erosion-resistant plantings and grading that prevents runoff from reaching the water.

  • East Tennessee's USDA Zone 7a climate allows for a wide plant palette, but summer heat and occasional drought mean moisture-tolerant species outperform many popular choices.

  • Slopes throughout Kingston, Rockwood, and rural Roane County are better stabilized with deep-rooted plantings than bare mulch or sod alone.

  • New construction properties in Roane County often have heavily compacted subsoil from grading, we evaluate and address this before planting.

Landscaping services we provide in Roane County

Below is a breakdown of the specific landscaping work we handle in Roane County. Each description reflects the site conditions, terrain, and property types common to this area.

Landscape Design & Installation

A significant share of our landscaping work in Roane County starts on new construction lots in Kingston and Harriman subdivisions, bare, graded ground with compacted subsoil and no existing plant material. We assess the soil condition, address grading and drainage first, then design and install a landscape that frames the home, controls erosion on open slopes, and establishes quickly in East Tennessee's growing conditions.

Planting: Trees, Shrubs & Perennials

Roane County sits in USDA Zone 7a, with hot, humid summers and periodic drought stress from July through September. We source from reputable Tennessee growers and prioritize native and regionally adapted species, plants like native beautyberry, serviceberry, and switchgrass that have proven track records in this climate. The goal is a planting plan that thrives without constant intervention rather than one that looks good on installation day and struggles the following summer.

Sod Installation & Lawn Renovation

Clay subsoil and compaction from construction equipment are common on Roane County properties, particularly on newer builds. Before sod goes down, we evaluate the existing soil, amend where needed, and address any grading issues that would cause uneven turf or water pooling. Fescue and bermuda mixes both have their place in East Tennessee depending on sun exposure and intended use, we'll recommend the right choice for your specific site.

Mulch & Rock Bed Installation

Sloped planting beds throughout Roane County present a specific challenge: mulch migrates downhill without proper edging and bed construction. We install clean, defined edges that hold bed material in place, apply mulch at the right depth to suppress weeds and protect roots, and select rock or mulch materials appropriate for your slope, sun exposure, and the plants in the bed. Bed construction done right significantly reduces ongoing maintenance.

Grading & Drainage Improvements

Roane County's clay-heavy soils and rolling terrain create drainage problems on a wide range of properties, water pooling near foundations, soggy low spots in lawns, and runoff channels cutting through planting beds. We assess the grade and water flow patterns of your property and correct problems through regrading, swale construction, and surface drainage modifications integrated into the landscape design. Waterfront and lakefront properties near Watts Bar Lake often require additional attention to prevent sediment runoff to the water.

Erosion Control & Slope Stabilization

Open slopes on hillside lots throughout Kingston, Oliver Springs, and rural Roane County erode quickly without the right plant cover and soil stabilization. Bare mulch alone is not enough on steeper grades, deep-rooted plantings, erosion-control fabric, and strategic placement of ground cover species are required to actually hold soil in place through Tennessee's heavy rain events. We design stabilization solutions that solve the erosion problem long term, not just until the next heavy rain.

  • RockSolid was a pleasure to work with. Mathew & crew thought out of the box to make our project perfect. We had an idea sketched on a piece of paper and Mathew took that and ran with it. We had big slabs of stone for walkways over our dry creek waterway. Threw in larger rocks around and mixed with landscape to give a natural look. Once all the shrubs, trees, grass and accent plantings start maturing it will be beautiful. We choose plantings that have green leaves year around and bloom throughout the seasons. So interest year around without traditional evergreen trees and shrubs. We highly recommend Mathew. He is thorough, gives attention to detail, honest and a good person to work with.
