Landscaping Services in Loudon, TN
Rock Solid designs and installs landscapes throughout Loudon and Loudon County that work with East Tennessee's climate, soil, and terrain. Whether you're starting from bare ground on a new construction home, updating an outdated landscape, or tackling erosion on a sloped lot, we create outdoor spaces that look intentional and hold up through Tennessee's demanding growing seasons.
Good landscaping in Loudon isn't just about aesthetics. It's about plant selection that survives summer heat and periodic drought, drainage that prevents erosion on rolling terrain, and design that matches how you actually use your yard. We get the site conditions right first so you're not replacing plants or regrading beds two seasons down the road.
How landscaping works in Loudon
Every landscaping project in Loudon starts with an assessment of your soil conditions, drainage patterns, sun exposure, and existing plant material. These factors determine which plants will establish and thrive, how beds need to be graded, and where water flow needs to be redirected. Skipping this step leads to plants that struggle, beds that wash out, and landscapes that require constant intervention.
From that assessment, we develop a design, source plants from reputable Tennessee growers, and install everything with proper soil preparation and bed construction. We communicate throughout the project so you understand what we're doing and why, not just what it looks like when it's done.
Local considerations for Loudon
Loudon County's clay-heavy soils require amendment for most planting beds. Proper soil preparation is what allows root systems to establish quickly and sustain healthy plants long term.
Properties near Fort Loudoun Lake and the Tennessee River need erosion-resistant plant selections and graded beds that prevent runoff from reaching the water.
East Tennessee's USDA Zone 7a climate supports a wide plant palette, but summer heat and periodic drought from July through September mean moisture-tolerant and native species outperform many popular nursery selections.
New construction lots throughout growing Loudon County neighborhoods often have heavily compacted subsoil from grading equipment. We evaluate and address this before any planting begins.
Sloped properties throughout the county require deep-rooted plantings and proper edging to stabilize beds and prevent erosion during East Tennessee's heavy rain events.

Landscaping services we provide in Loudon
Below is a breakdown of the specific landscaping work we handle in Loudon. Each description reflects the site conditions, terrain, and property types common to this area.
Landscape Design & Installation
A significant portion of our landscaping work in Loudon County starts on new construction lots, bare, graded ground with compacted subsoil and no existing plant material. We assess soil conditions, address grading and drainage first, then design and install a landscape that frames the home, controls erosion on open slopes, and establishes quickly in East Tennessee's growing conditions. For existing properties, we work from what's already in place, removing what isn't working and building on what is.
Planting: Trees, Shrubs & Perennials
Loudon County sits in USDA Zone 7a with hot, humid summers and periodic drought stress from July through September. We source from reputable Tennessee growers and prioritize native and regionally adapted species: plants like native beautyberry, serviceberry, and switchgrass with proven track records in this climate. The goal is a planting plan that thrives without constant intervention, not one that looks great on installation day and struggles the following summer.
Sod Installation & Lawn Renovation
Clay subsoil and compaction from construction equipment are common on Loudon County properties, particularly newer builds throughout the growing subdivisions near Lenoir City and Loudon. Before sod goes down, we evaluate the existing soil, amend where needed, and address any grading issues that would cause uneven turf or water pooling. Fescue and bermuda mixes both have their place in East Tennessee depending on sun exposure and use patterns, and we'll recommend the right choice for your specific site.
Mulch & Rock Bed Installation
Sloped planting beds throughout Loudon County present a specific challenge: without proper edging and bed construction, mulch migrates downhill and beds break down quickly. We install clean, defined edges that hold bed material in place, apply mulch at the right depth to suppress weeds and protect roots, and select rock or mulch materials appropriate for the slope, sun exposure, and plant types in each bed. Done correctly, this significantly reduces ongoing maintenance and keeps the landscape looking cared-for between visits.
Grading & Drainage Improvements
Loudon County's clay soils and rolling terrain create drainage problems on a wide range of properties, water pooling near foundations, soggy low spots in lawns, and runoff channels cutting through planting beds. We assess grade and water flow patterns and correct problems through regrading, swale construction, and surface drainage modifications integrated directly into the landscape design. Properties near Fort Loudoun Lake require additional attention to prevent sediment from reaching the water.
Erosion Control & Slope Stabilization
Open slopes on hillside lots throughout Loudon and Greenback erode quickly without proper plant cover and soil stabilization. Bare mulch alone is not enough on steeper grades, deep-rooted plantings, erosion-control fabric, and strategic ground cover placement are required to hold soil through Tennessee's heavy rain events. We design stabilization solutions that solve the erosion problem long term, not just until the next significant storm.

RockSolid was a pleasure to work with. Mathew & crew thought out of the box to make our project perfect. We had an idea sketched on a piece of paper and Mathew took that and ran with it. We had big slabs of stone for walkways over our dry creek waterway. Threw in larger rocks around and mixed with landscape to give a natural look. Once all the shrubs, trees, grass and accent plantings start maturing it will be beautiful. We choose plantings that have green leaves year around and bloom throughout the seasons. So interest year around without traditional evergreen trees and shrubs. We highly recommend Mathew. He is thorough, gives attention to detail, honest and a good person to work with.

How our process works
We follow a consistent process on every project, consult, plan, estimate, install, and walk through, so you always know where things stand and what to expect next.
Consult
We walk your property with you, listen to what you want to accomplish, and evaluate current conditions: soil, drainage, sun exposure, and existing plant material.
In Loudon: In Loudon, we pay close attention to how the grade drains, where clay soil concentration is heaviest, and how proximity to Fort Loudoun Lake affects planting decisions and erosion risk.
Plan/Design
We develop a planting plan and site layout based on your goals, the conditions we observed, and your budget. Plant species and materials are chosen specifically for Loudon County's climate.
In Loudon: We specify plants that are proven performers in East Tennessee's Zone 7a climate, tolerant of summer heat, clay soils, and freeze-thaw cycles, rather than relying on generic plant lists.
Estimate
You receive a written scope covering materials, plant species, labor, and a project timeline. No vague line items.
In Loudon: For Loudon properties with drainage challenges or significant slope, we include any grading or drainage work as separate, clearly defined line items so the full scope is transparent.
Install
We execute the project in the proper sequence: site prep and grading before planting, irrigation before mulch, sod last. We communicate throughout.
Walkthrough
After installation, we walk the finished project with you, cover basic care guidance, and address any remaining items before we close out the job.
